A group of protesters have laid seige on the regional office of SOuth Africa owned telecommunication company, MTN in Abuja.
According to information made available on the Punch website, the vandals broke into the office premises with rods and sticks seeking retaliation the xenophobia attack on Nigerians in the erstwhile apartheid country.
Remember that members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had earlier stormed the MTN office and South African embassy in protest of the harsh treatment being meted out to Nigerians in South Africa. They even went as far as threatening to attack the businesses owned by South Africans if they don’t leave the country in 48 hours.
Well, it is not yet up to 48 hours and we have had our first case of xenophobia reprisal attacks. Witnesses at the MTN regional office claim that the vandals took phones, cash and destroyed some vehicles and office equipment. The men of the Nigerian police were however on ground to halt the xenophobia reprisal attacks before it degenerated.
